M.J. Bale’s weaving partner for our wool, silk and linen Classics ties and pocket squares is a family-run firm situated near the town of Como in Italy.
Our partner maintains in their archive room over 15,000 volumes of historical patterns and weaves. They have been collected from European libraries and private collections over the past 50-plus years.
Our partner strives to have a low ecological impact, eliminating waste toxins from treated silk and reducing its carbon footprint. “[We do this] not just for style,” the company says, “but – and especially – because in this case, style is synonymous with ethics. We are concerned about the future and protecting our planet. Consequently, we try and do what’s best for the Earth, safe in the knowledge that it belongs as much to us as it does to future generations and we intend to pass it on to them in the same state as it was to us."
Performance
The Italian 3-fold tie making technique is a traditional method of making by hand high-quality ties. In this technique, a single piece of wool, linen or silk fabric is folded three times to create the body of the tie.
The process involves carefully cutting and folding the fabric, then stitching it together by hand to create the finished tie. The result is a tie with a smooth and even knot, a clean drape, and a refined look that is perfect for formal and business occasions.
This technique requires skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail, and is used by our Classics tie makers in Campania, who value quality and tradition. This technique is renowned for creating ties that are lightweight, comfortable, and elegant, with a timeless style that never goes out of fashion.
