Fibre History
Silk comes from the cocoon of the silkworm, a type of caterpillar that is native to China. The cocoons are harvested and the silk fibres are carefully unravelled and spun into threads, which are then woven into fabric. Silk has a natural lustre and sheen, but is also a strong and durable fibre that can withstand repeated wear and handling. It is also naturally moisture-wicking, which means that it can absorb sweat and other moisture without becoming damaged or discoloured.
Performance
M.J. Bale ties are constructed in the 3-fold tie tradition, which is a tie made from a single piece of fabric folded over three times to create a layered, three-panel construction. The fabric is folded with the outer layers covering the inner layer, which creates a thicker knot and a fuller appearance.
