Provenance
Fibre History
Used in the construction of tailored men's shirts since the late 1700s, cotton offers superior comfort, durability and versatility. Cotton is hypoallergenic meaning it is gentle on skin and is non-irritative while its moisture-wicking properties allows your skin to 'breathe' and keep its cool.
Weaving
Founded in Lancashire, England, in 1796 by Sir Thomas Mason, Thomas Mason cloth was favoured by the shirt makers of Jermyn Street and, later, tailors of Savile Row, because of its superior drape and quality.
The Bergamo-based Albini family purchased the business, including its swathe of archive materials, in 1992, and has maintained its premium reputation.
Thomas Mason has ISO 14001:2015 certification, considered the global standard for environmental management. It is solar and wind energy-powered and omits less than 6000 tons of CO2e annually.

Construction
M.J. Bale shirts feature all the hallmarks of the great English shirtmaking heritage. Our Collection shirts have been constructed with single-needle stitched French seams, shaped side gussets, four-piece back split yoke, pleated cuffs, a long shirt tail, non-fused collar & cuff interlinings and constructed front placket. These details contribute to a superior fitting garment and more durable wear.
