Provenance
Fibre-Fabric

This garment is crafted from pure linen, woven from the finest European flax. Celebrated for its breathability and natural texture, linen allows air to circulate freely, keeping the wearer cool and comfortable in warmer climates. Derived from the flax plant, the fibre is distinguished by its subtle slubbed texture, which lends both character and a relaxed elegance to the finished garment. Stronger than cotton and naturally durable, linen is a fabric that not only withstands wear but softens and improves over time, developing a beautiful lived-in patina unique to its wearer.

European flax, in particular, is revered for its quality and sustainability, grown in nutrient-rich soils with minimal environmental impact. Its cultivation requires little water and no genetically modified seeds, making it a fibre as responsible as it is refined. From the fields of Northern France and Belgium to the ateliers where it is woven, European flax linen carries with it a story of heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless style. The result is a fabric that embodies understated luxury—lightweight, breathable, and effortlessly sophisticated.

Construction

While the term might sound like a misnomer, M.J. Bale's 'decon' technique, used in the construction of some of our jackets, is actually what it says it is: a method of tailoring to construct a garment in the most unstructured, soft and lightweight way possible. It is a sartorial technique commonly associated with Neapolitan tailoring. It means the jackets are crafted with minimal padding and internal construction, allowing the fabric to drape naturally over the body. This creates a softer, more fluid silhouette that follows the contours of the wearer without excessive stiffness or structure. With Australia's spring-summer climate mostly mirroring that of Meditteranean summers, the decon technique also helps Australian men stay cool and unflustered while being sartorially stylish.
