Waistcoats for Three-Piece Suits & Weddings
A waistcoat adds an extra layer of refinement to a suit, creating a classic three-piece look for weddings, business and formal occasions. For traditional styling, choose a waistcoat designed to coordinate with the matching suit jacket and trousers in the same fabric and colour.
For weddings, waistcoats can also help distinguish the groom from the rest of the wedding party. Consider colour, fabric and accessories alongside the wider wedding palette, while keeping the overall look complementary to the suit.
Merino Wool & Natural-Fibre Waistcoats
Fabric influences the structure, texture and seasonality of a waistcoat. M.J. Bale's collection includes Merino wool waistcoats alongside styles crafted from other premium natural fibres and considered blends.
At M.J. Bale, our tailoring begins with Australian Merino wool. Much of our wool is sourced from the New England region of New South Wales, where we work with a network of Australian growers producing superfine Merino wool. The wool then travels to Italy, where it is woven by some of the world's renowned fabric mills into premium cloth for our tailoring collections.
At the pinnacle of our Australian wool provenance is our partnership with Kingston farm in Tasmania. Its superfine Merino wool is raised using regenerative and conservation focused farming practices, with a share of every sale reinvested into habitat preservation on the property.
The result is premium Australian Merino wool suiting that combines natural performance, refined Italian craftsmanship and a considered approach to provenance.
How to Wear a Men's Waistcoat
For a traditional three-piece suit, coordinate your waistcoat with the matching jacket and trousers and wear it over a formal or business shirt. Add a tie for business, weddings and occasions where the dress code calls for a more formal finish.
A waistcoat can also be worn without the suit jacket for a less formal approach, particularly during a wedding reception or in warmer conditions. Keep the shirt, trousers and accessories considered so the outfit remains polished.
