M.J. Bale Romantics: Soph & Beau
For our Love Hub segment, we chat with loved-up newlyweds – and friends of the brand – to ask all the most pressing questions of their romantic storyline: where did you meet, was it love at first sight… you get the picture.
M.J. Bale: Hi Soph & Beau, Congratulations on your wedding! Can you tell us how you both first met?
Soph & I met when we were 15 through friends. I lived across the road from her high school so she would always see me leaving & arriving home.
M.J. Bale: And was it love at first sight?
Being so young, I don’t think we knew what love really was, however a way to get her over without officially asking her (because I was too nervous), would be to say that I was craving Pork Buns. She would then pick up some Pork Buns from the corner store and deliver them to my house. There’s no way she would for that now haha.
M.J. Bale: What was it about your partner that made you fall for them?
Beau – I love how genuine she is with people, she just has a way to brighten up any room with her personality.
Soph – I love Beau’s positive energy and ability to make everybody feel like he’s their best friend. There is not one person that would say a bad word about him.
M.J. Bale: What did you love about your partner when you first met them?
Beau – How confident Soph was, even though it did scare me
Soph – How swaggy he was !! and how he would do anything and everything for his family.
M.J. Bale: Tell us about the proposal. Where was it? How did it happen? Was it a surprise?
I proposed to Soph in Lake Como, we rented out a boat for the day just the two of us. Spent 3 hours on the boat with the ring burning a hole in my pocket but I knew I wanted to do it in front of the Nesso Bridge, she definitely wasn’t expecting it.
M.J. Bale: Can you tell us a bit about your choice to don an M.J. Bale number for the wedding? Were you chuffed with the final outcome?
I chose to use M.J. Bale for our suits because my brother/best-man wore them when he played for the Wallabies. He swore by them, and they didn’t disappoint, I went to the M.J. Bale in Woollahra and the lady that helped us was awesome, she made us feel comfortable while giving us good advice on how the suit should feel and look.
M.J. Bale: Can you both talk to us about the venue for your wedding, where it was, and what was the inspiration? It looked stunning!
We got married at The Sir George, in a country town in NSW called Jugiong (4hours South-West of Sydney). Soph has family in Jugiong, so we had been down to visit a couple of times. Every time we went to Jugiong, we left feeling closer and happier, so it just made sense for us to have it down there. We were so excited to show all of our family & friends the special part of Regional NSW that we can’t stop talking about.We were so incredibly happy with The Sir George. The food and service were unmatched – they went above and beyond to make us feel relaxed on the day. The best thing was that they delivered leftovers to our room after guests had left - we spent the rest of the night drinking champas, eating and re-reading our vows to eachother.
M.J. Bale: Have you had a honeymoon yet, or any plans for one?
We had our honeymoon in the Philippines straight after our wedding, we spent 10 days island hoping, snorkelling, and drinking cocktails.
M.J. Bale: Can you talk to us about the emotions you felt on the wedding day?
To be honest I was nervous, I was nervous because I just wanted everything to go smoothly for Soph. Once all theformalities were out of the way it was the best day.
M.J. Bale: Lastly, does life feel any different for you now that you’re married, or is it business as usual?
Business as usual, with a few weekly traditions thrown into the mix.
M.J. Bale: Finally, what advice would you give to other couples planning their big day?
Honestly.. spend the money it’s worth it !!!! It was the most incredible 3 days of our lives. At the beginning of your planning, nut out what is the most important to both of you. Try and stick to your budget the best as you can (for as long as you can), as 3 weeks prior to the day, it really blows out. Final advice would be to have a recovery day, it was the best day of our lives (probably not supposed to say it was better than our wedding day) but it really was.. we were relaxed and could finally enjoy ourselves with our guests. A Friday wedding means a Saturday recovery day and your guests can enjoy themselves without thinking about work the next day.
