M.J. Bale Romantics: Misty & Jarrod

M.J. Bale: Hi! Congratulations on your wedding! Can you tell us how you both first met?

Misty - I think we met through my brother when we were in year 8 or 9. He was my brothers friend, the forbidden fruit hah… although I wasn’t really interested in him then so I didn’t think much of him. It wasn’t until about 6 years later that Jarrod started writing funny posts on Facebook (back in 2010 when people actually wrote Facebook statuses) that he caught my eye.

M.J. Bale: And was it love at first sight?

Misty - No, definitely wasn’t love at first sight for me, he was my brother’s friend.

Jarrod - wasn’t quite love at first sight for me either but from the moment I met her I had a thing for her, I always thought she was out of my league.

M.J. Bale: What did you love about your partner when you first met them?

Misty - his sense of humour, his kindness and the way he will talk to anyone and make them feel welcome and just the effort he put in to win my heart. I had never had anyone make such a fuss over me before. He was constantly thinking of little things he could do everyday to make me smile.

Jarrod - her easy-going approach to life, her beautiful smile, beautiful personality and her sense of fun and wanting to get out and enjoy the world and life.

M.J. Bale: Tell us about the proposal. Where was it? How did it happen? Was it a surprise?

Misty - Jarrod proposed to me at Pot Alley in Kalbarri - one of my favourite places in the world. There’s a little spot where you can sit on the rocks overlooking the ocean that we love to go to and have a picnic. This spot is a bit of a mission to get to as you have to walk down a cliff/gorge so I usually always have to beg Jarrod to go there as he’s usually the one carrying all the stuff. We had only just been down there 2 nights earlier with my sister so I thought it was a little weird for Jarrod to suggest to we go down there again this night for sunset. So this made me a little suspicious.

Jarrod had set up an amazing spread of food and champagne and also had my art easel set up. He told me he wanted to paint me by the ocean so to stand over to the side, I was very suss by then… and once he said he was done I came over and looked at his painting which said “will you marry me”. I couldn’t stop laughing I was so nervous, excited and happy… it was simply the best. Jarrod had also asked an Argentinian backpacker to film the whole thing so we can rewatch it all whenever we want.

M.J. Bale: Can you tell us a bit about your choice to don an M.J. Bale number for the wedding? Were you chuffed with the final outcome?

I’ve seen some of my groom friends don the MJ Bale suit in the past and they all looked very suave, so I knew that I had to have an MJ Bale suit too. The sales assistant in store went above and beyond and made it it a really fun experience and wearing it on the day, I had never felt so good in an outfit before.

M.J. Bale: Can you both talk to us about the venue for your wedding, where it was, and what was the inspiration? It looked stunning!

We got married at Chateau Le Mas de Montet in the Dordogne region in the south of France. We knew we wanted a French/italian style wedding with ethereal vibes but we couldn’t find the right venue in Australia so we thought instead of trying to recreate a European vibe here why don’t we just go there and get the real thing. It worked out perfectly and all our family and friends could make a holiday out of it too.

M.J. Bale: Have you had a honeymoon yet, or any plans for one?

Yes, we spent two weeks in Europe before the wedding and two weeks after so that was kind of our honeymoon. We spent all of the trip with friends, family and our 18 month old daughter… so it wasn’t your typical honeymoon but we had the best time. We might do a little night or two away just the two of us after our civil ceremony in a couple of weeks.

M.J. Bale: Can you talk to us about the emotions you felt on the wedding day?

The emotions were HIGH!!! it was like nothing we’ve ever experienced before … one second you would be bursting out laughing and the next second you would be crying with tears of joy, appreciation and so much love. The day was such a wild ride for the emotions, walking down the aisle was next level. I have never been more excited and nervous at the same time.

M.J. Bale: Lastly, does life feel any different for you now that you’re married, or is it business as usual?

Yes it definitely does! I can’t describe the feeling exactly but things just feel better, it’s like we’re starting a new phase of our lives… and getting to call him “my husband” is so fun, I whip it out any chance I get!

M.J. Bale: Finally, what advice would you give to other couples planning their big day?

If a detail/element is really important to you make sure your vendors are completely clear on your expectations, and if it doesn’t work out exactly how you envisioned it on the day, just go with the flow… you won’t care about it the next day and chances are your guests would not have even noticed.
