Iconic Moments

Created in 2010, making it the grandmaster of all M.J. Bale suits, the navy Saunders endures for a reason. Woven in a slightly textured Super 110s cloth in Biella, Italy, from Merino wool grown in New England, NSW, the navy Saunders conveys an understated kind of elegance. It has spawned countless iterations (Saunders waistcoats, peak lapel & stretch wool versions, black- coloured option) and has been worn by the Australian Test cricket team.

For more than a century, the sand-coloured casual suit has been the leisure-seeking man’s staple. Few other tailored garments breathe quite as easily in tropical climates or carry such nonchalance. Remember Richie Benaud in the “the cream, the bone, the white, the off-white, the ivory or the beige”? Our version, the linen-cotton Robertson suit, made its debut in the spring of 2016, and we’re sure it must be up there as Australia’s favourite wedding suit.

The origins of the dinner jacket AKA tuxedo go back to 1865, when the Prince of Wales asked his tailor to create a garment he could wear to informal dinners. The tuxedo - one-button, midnight black jacket with a satin shawl lapel, complete with matching satin trim trousers – has endured ever since. Our Saunders tuxedo, ever faithful to the original, launched in 2012. It was always the desire of M.J. Bale Founder, Matt Jensen, to create a tuxedo every man could dance in and our Saunders has kept thousands of Australian men in graceful condition – both at the altar and on the dancefloor.
