Bale’s brand pillars – our principles, credo and the very foundations of this ever-evolving ‘house’ that we are striving to build. Adhering to these four pillars, and contributing what we can to forge more positive footprints on this planet, is what gets us up in the morning.

Established in 2009 by Matt Jensen (Matt is the ‘M.J.’ in M.J. Bale; ‘Bale’ represents a bale of wool), our Australian-owned, natural fibres-centric brand has grown to almost 70 stores with over 300 staff.

However, we still feel small and nimble, and pride ourselves on the ability to pursue the unorthodox opportunity (have you seen our world-first zero-emission wool farm trial project?)

Recently M.J. Bale became Climate Active certified, making us the first Australian fashion brand to be accredited as 100% carbon neutral for both products (from ‘cradle-to-sale’) and organisation. Our entire footprint is offset in green projects, including the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor in southwest Australia.

However, we see 100% carbon neutrality as just the baseline for business. The real work has now begun to reduce our carbon footprint and create the lightest possible footprint in Australian retail.
